and discovered that there were 78 pieces of short prose on that list!! As the kids say, OMG! That is quite a lot, isn’t it?

Some of these pieces were collected in the beautiful anthology Artful Flight edited by Carmine Starnino for The Porcupine’s Quill, back when the press was run by Tim and Elke Inkster; since then I have amassed a new collection of personal essays I hope to publish some day. I am also working on a collection of essays about my place in the evolution of the cosmos. Which sounds crazy, but it is the most fun of any of the books I have ever written! Probably my favourite piece is the one about lichen and slime mold (an expanded version of something I published in Grain three years ago). I am tempted to post it here just to give whoever reads this blog the purest possible distillation of how my mind works.

Should I?        Would you read it?        Let me know!
